WHETHER YOU ARE A WEEKEND WARRIOR OR EXPERIENCED JOCK, INJURIES CAN HAPPEN.
By: Lionel Leger, DC, LAT, CSCS
Most of us exercise or have exercised somewhat regularly in our lifetime. Unfortunately, along with this exercise comes the higher incidence of injuries. Whether it is the common sprain/strain injury or more chronic ailments such as tendonitis or bursitis, we have all experienced pain in one or more bodily areas that has kept us from enjoying our chosen physical activity.
Aside from an acute traumatic event, which may necessitate a lengthened immobilization or even sometimes surgery and possibly physical therapy, most athletic injuries sustained comprise of injuries that are not debilitating enough to stop you from staying physically active. They are still significant enough though to cause pain and sometimes affect your ability to perform at your fullest. The 3 most common regions in the body that withstand injuries are the ankle, shoulder, and knee. The first crucial step in the treatment of these injuries is a proper diagnosis, whereas an incomplete or improper assessment will most certainly result in a longer than expected recovery, a decline in performance, and in some cases cause other injuries to occur.
As a former collegiate athlete and now closer to the weekend warrior, I have also experienced my share of injuries. My training and clinical experience have given me the tools to diagnose and treat these very injuries. This is an integral part of my practice at Integrative Chiropractic. In addition to diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions that relate to the spine, I also consult with patients who have suffered acute or chronic injuries to other areas of their body. The modalities used in our office consist of electrical stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser therapy, massage therapy, movement-specific training, exercise therapy, and sport-specific rehabilitation.
